Updated March 2023
Founded in Ventura, California in 1973, Patagonia is a well-known leader in sustainable and transparent fashion. They’re known for their quality, eco-friendly outdoor clothing and gear.
Starting in the late 2000s, Patagonia vests and jackets featuring corporate logos became wardrobe staples on Wall Street and in Silicon Valley. Embroidered Patagonia jackets, vests, and shirts were also popular among employees of outdoor and adventure brands and eco-conscious companies.
However, in 2021, Patagonia announced their decision to transition away from allowing corporate logos to be added to their clothing.
As a result, many companies are now searching for customizable alternatives to Patagonia’s popular fleece vests, eco-friendly t-shirts, colorful all-weather jackets, and durable backpacks and packs. After all, logo outerwear and bags are often gifted to corporate employees throughout the year (they’re an especially ideal way to commemorate an outdoor team retreat). They also make high-end promotional giveaways for U.S. consumers.
High quality, environmentally friendly, and sustainably made outdoor clothing and gear (that can be customized with a company logo and colors) include the following brands.
Custom Patagonia Alternatives
Cotopaxi’s colorful and sustainable outerwear and casualwear designs are a highly popular, custom apparel and accessory alternative to Patagonia.
Cotopaxi adventure jackets, vests, hip packs, and backpacks are especially sought-after by the Silicon Valley crowd. In fact, Axios recently wrote that, “…the new sporty jacket brand of choice for VCs these days is Cotopaxi, a Salt Lake City-based company founded in 2014.”
Like Patagonia, Cotopaxi is a Certified B Corporation, meaning they’ve met rigorous standards for social and environmental performance. Cotopaxi is also Climate Neutral Certified. tentree makes sustainable, on-trend activewear and outerwear that is widely appealing to active, eco-conscious members of Gen Y and Z. Like Patagonia, tentree is a Certified B Corporation. They were recognized as Best For The World in the Community impact area by B Lab Global in 2021 and 2022.
tentree uses sustainable and eco-friendly materials for their garments including hemp, cork & organic cotton. Their brand is known for planting ten trees for every apparel item sold (they’ve planted more than 50 million trees so far). They are also committed to ethical manufacturing and supply chain transparency, publishing detailed information about the factories they work with on their website.
Allmade produces ethically made t-shirts and hoodies from 100% certified organic cotton, recycled polyester, GOTS-certified dyes, and other materials that are better for the environment. Allmade is a carbon neutral company. Their production practices save water and limit CO2 emissions.
Like Patagonia, Allmade is committed to transparency in their supply chain, publishing detailed information about their factories on their website.
